I've been waiting for this month to come for a while now and its finally here! This month we will be going to the temple (when you don't get to go whenever you want you miss it soooo much!), training for Fort Collins, serving AT the temple, being trained by a General Authority for it, and the list goes on! Its going to be a great and busy month!
Ok so this week has been full of craziness! Monday night we did our first Family Home Evening. It was Pioneer themed and we were able to get some of the youth's trek clothes and dress up as pioneers that night! However, since FHE hasn't happened here in awhile, we were afraid not many people would come. Well, not a lot of people did. BUT there were a few couples there and it was just enough to be cozy and FUN! Like a FHE is supposed to be :) So it went really well!
Our little boy Howie and his family is doing great! We continue to teach him, and this week we go to Desert book after the Temple, so we are getting fun props to teach our lessons to him with!
Throughout the week I've been doing this weird thing where we go to dinners and I stuff myself sill with food and then have stomach aches the rest of the night. Okay that's nothing new... but it seemed to be a pattern this week! Lol but I'd rather be stuffed then starving, so no complaints here!
So awhile back I mentioned how we have a woman who speaks only Chinese that has read some of the Book Of Mormon. Well we finally got a translator and an appointment with her! So Saturday our translator, a sister from the YSA ward nearby who served her mission in Taiwan, met up with us a we knocked on their door. As soon as the door opened they greeted us with huge smiles and broken English here and there! They had cut up plates of all kinds of fruit and was offering them to us left and right! And then as soon as we sat down, they gave us a glass of hot water (this is apparently a custom in China because it helps "cleanse the soul"). It was so sweet! Well come to find out its not this one woman, but her husband and daughter and son that all live together! The husband has read the entire Book of Mormon and has a very detailed knowledge about it! He believes its all true and really happened!! The funny thing was we looked at his Book Of Mormon and it had a different book cover on it - as if it was a magazine. It was also so old that it didn't have the current translations that the new edition has (they had to add a syllable to Mormon because that word in Chinese is really close Devil... so they couldn't have it be Book of the devil... lol). The husband mentioned that in China there isn't any religious freedom for Christians, so we think he's had that Book Of Mormon for a long time and has been hiding it!!!! CRAZY!!!!! Anyway, the meeting went really well. I understood when they said thank you, teacher, and little brother (S/O to Mrs Liang thanks for teaching me Chinese!!) but other than that we were pretty useless. lol However, there are a few other Chinese investigators in the area, so we are thinking about starting a class on Wednesday nights to help teach them English (the church has a program all set up for it)! So stay tuned for that!
Yesterday was such a great Sunday. Going to church and feeling the support from the ward really empowers us! Sunday night we had an appointment with a man that a member couple set up for us!! We met in a hotel lobby and proceeded to teach this man! His nickname is Mr. T and he is so awesome! He has spent the last 8 years in jail but got out early for good behavior and is bound and determined to set his life on the right path with a positive attitude. He is a world class power lifter! He holds some records right now and can dead lift about 800!!! What's even more amazing is that the man is 61 and has extremely bowed legs. But nothing stops him! We were able to teach him about the Restoration and he seemed to understand it well! he's accepted a baptismal date of September 3!! So keep him in your prayers!
Well I would say that's about it for this week BUUUUT.. its not... This morning at about 5:40 we got up to start cleaning the apartment. I put some cleaner in the toilet and flushed it (yes I'm still in charge of the bathrooms mom, thanks), but instead of flushing, it gurgled and began leaking out the bottom! I then checked the bathtub and noticed that it had backed up nasty water in it too! ARGH! We now couldn't clean anything because we couldn't use water and we couldn't get ready because our facilities were flooded! Sister Nielsen and I called the Senior Missionaries in our area and asked if we could get ready at their house and they happily agreed! They have a fairly nice apartment, so getting ready there felt like we were in a 5 star hotel <3 It was so nice! After doing that we went back home and walked in to the apartment smelling like poop... It had flooded out to the hallway! At this point we had already called maintenance and left a message, but now we tried the emergency line... no answer... so we left another message. While we were trying to get everything off the floor and pack whatever we could away, it got worse!! Instead of just being damp, a lake was now forming!! We quickly gathered our things and left. It is now 12:16 and we haven't heard back from maintenance, meanwhile our apartment is slowly becoming a sewage tank.. But no worries, we might be staying somewhere else tonight or at a hotel!! Fingers crossed its a nice one... lol
Alright NOW that's about it! We've got some big things happening this week so we're so excited! I'm so grateful for each and every one of you and enjoy your weekly emails!
Stay strong and be faithful- go to the temple often!! Don't waste this privilege! How wonderful it is to know we have a refuge from the storm of this life at our fingertips! Use it often! Renew your covenants often! And if you cant go to the temple, start now the often hard journey repentance and hard work, because in the Eternal perspective its worth everything in the world we go through!!!
Love you all soooooo much and hope all is well!
Keep in touch!
Sister Loyd
