Last Tuesday we had our annual Sister's Conference! Last time I went to this I was still being trained and didnt know anybody yet. This time was MUCH different! As an STL I knew majority of the Sisters there and I was also one of the one's giving a training. The training we gave was about professionalism in our speech aka conversation and slang etc. So to demonstrate and make things a little fun, Sister Nelson and I went to Goodwill and bought women's business suits! We greeted everyone by being very professional and put together, like Men in Black, but as soon as we walked in the door we were using lots of slang and talking about not so good things and later pointed out how that immediately discredits us as representatives. It was a fun training to give! And also a good reminder that this is not just for missionary life, but as a Disciple of Christ we've made a covenant to always represent Him!
Wednesday was such a great day! We had the intention of going out for a long day of contacting people and tracting. Instead, almost every one we tried was home and let us right in! One of which is our investigator Sara, who has the Autistic and Deaf son. We taught her the Plan of Salvation and when we asked her where she would put herself in this plan she automatically realized that she needed Baptism in order to get to where she wanted to be- in the Celestial Kingdom! So we put her on Baptismal Date for April 20th! Later that day we went and contacted a referral we had all but given up on. This time, however, some one not only came to the door, but jumped up and down when she saw us! She opened the door, let us right in, and expressed how she'd been waiting and praying for us!! We talked about her history and connection to the Church and she asked about us as well. She is very interested in the Church and is so excited to learn more about it! If it tells you anything about how great she is... she was having a hard time one night, so she googled the Church location and drove to it and sat in the parking lot just to soak in the Spirit... Amazing!!!
Thursday was lots of fun! We finally put on our Book of Mormon class we've been working on and it went so well! Because the manual we have is not a very detailed one, we pretty much just winged the class, but man it went well! We went through half of the introduction of the Book of Mormon and drew pictures on the board to describe it all. People asked really good questions and we all had a great time! We're hoping to see more people this week as well!
Friday... all I need to say about Friday is that we went to dinner with a member who's dog had just gave birth to a liter of 6 CUTE puppies!!!!! So we ate dinner as quick as possible and then cuddled with the most adorable of God's creations the rest of the time. My life was made.
Saturday was a busy day of running from appointment to appointment! We taught a lot and went over a lot! We taught Fred who is our other investigator preparing for Baptism! He's very excited as well and is LOVING the Book of Mormon. After dinner we went to the Sisters Session of General Conference.... It. Was. Amazing!!!!!!!!! Man I love this church. Seriously though, the talks were SO impressive and beautifully put. The visuals were great! And it was crazy that EVERYTHING Sister Nelson and I taught that day, even down to the very scriptures we used, were used in those talks! It truly was remarkable and humbling to see that the things we are teaching and committing people to do will certainly bring them closer to Christ and on the path of true discipleship! This is HIS Gospel, and I feel honored to be able to share it with others every day!
That is about it for this week! Today, instead of emailing first thing, Sister Nelson and I decided to go on the famous "Flat-Irons" Hike in Boulder! We started trekking at 8am. Man it was a difficult one... but it was also so beautiful and so worth it! We got to the very top of the mountain at 9:30 and started our studies up there! It was a very surreal feeling looking over the valley and reading the word of God. There's definitely something special about mountains. However, I can still feel just as close to God when I am in my basement studying each morning too. But it was a beautiful experience to say the least! The climb back down was fun! We went off the path and slid/butt-scooted most of the way! When we finally got to flatter ground we decided to run the rest of the way down- SO FUN! Pictures to come. After this we went to Downtown Boulder next to the CU school and walked up and down the famous Pearl Street. Cute shops galore embellished the town, but one in particular caught my eye..... KILWINS. I couldn't believe it! I thought those were only on the East Coast! I made Sister Nelson come in with me and we both had to get the caramel sugar covered rice crispy! That is the taste of Heaven right there. After our window shopping we went back into our area and to the library and here we are now!!
As for Transfers......... *drum roll please*........... I will be staying her in the Lafayette and Sister Mietus is coming to be my companion!!! WE made "transfer predictions" and I actually predicted this would happen so just call me the Spirit of Prophesy
Just kidding dont do that... lol But I am very excited! Background on Sister Mietus: I picked her up her very fist night in the mission field and took her and her then companion grocery shopping. I then became her STL in Parker. After last transfer we both moved but I was still her STL! She's from Washington, has a twin brother, and her family breeds dogs. She's super good at basketball (she's gonna teach me :)) and very easy going!!!! Its possible that she might be the companion that will kill me (mission terminology for being my comp when I get sent home)! Im very excited!
As for Sister Nelson, she is going to Parker South to finish training a new missionary for her last 6 weeks. I'll miss her but im happy she's going to such a great place with a great companion to die with!
My testimony this week is a short one- Alma7:23: When change comes about, and it always will in this life, we must remember the attributes we've been taught to obtain. Patience, gentleness, humility, diligence, obedience, etc. We are always allowed, and should always ask for help with our temporal well being as well as our spiritual well being! But in all things, give thanks to the Lord. If we break this down even further ,v24: When we have faith, hope, and charity, we will abound in good works. Let us all try to "abound in good works" so that we may "glorify our Father in Heaven" and be a more bold and loving Disciple of Christ. The blessings for doing these things will help us SO much in this life AND in the life to come!!!
Welp, that's pretty much everything I have to report! Thanks so much every one for keeping me up to date with your lives and loving/supporting me from afar! I love you all!
Have a great week!!!!!!
Love Always,
Sister Loyd
