Going to the Temple 3 different times this week was really fun/exhausting! Always worth it though. Its so great to be able to answer people's questions about the Gospel and Jesus Christ and see it all start to click in their heads. There's a different kind of feeling as well when you're speaking, not from your own knowledge, but from the Holy Ghost as it testifies to you.
But let me tell you about Friday... So Friday we had the morning shift, which means we had to be up by about 4:50am or so. Well we got ready and met all the sisters at the stake building to arrange car pools. When we got there I asked the sisters if we could ride with them and they said sure! However, when the time came it turned out that I had to drive our car up to Fort Collins with my previous-companion Sister Riddle and her now-companion. We started off on the highway and all was well. Every time I drive on the highway now I think of dad yelling "10 AND 2!!". At the moment I was not driving "10 and 2" and got the subtle impression that maybe I should read adjust. As soon as I did I felt the car swerve a bit - didn't think anything of it. Sister Nielsen, however, turned down the music we were listening to and said "what is that?"... There was a loud rumbling noise coming from outside. I thought it was a truck next to us, until Sister Nielsen said, "uhh we're smoking.. I think our tire just blew.." Sure enough, our tire had blown! I slowly pulled over and the other sisters in their cars did too. We got out, assessed the damage, and immediately went into mechanic mode! We popped the trunk got out the spare and started the whole process. Sister Riddle did most of the work, but I jumped on the lever to loosen the bolts, so that counts for something, right? Anyway, in no time we changed our tire. A police man pulled up next to us and offered help but once we told him we'd changed it already he congratulated us and went on his way. I knew that we couldn't go far on a spare, let alone 80 miles an hour on an interstate, so we got off on the nearest exit to the Toyota dealership. Unfortunately, they didn't have the tire, so we followed the other sisters on a back road to the Temple. Despite everything we had a wonderful time at the temple! And after wards we took the back road home aka it took us about 2 and 1/2 hours for a regular 50 min drive (there was also a Broncos game that night so lots of traffic). Once we got back to the church we went to the nearest Firestone. They were able to fix our tire in no time!
We went home and got dinner and only had time to contact about 1 person. Well once we got there we looked on the call box for the number but it didn't work.. We were just about to turn back when a young man and woman started walking out. The man stopped and said "Sisterrrrs! How are you, who are you here to see?" We told him the name and he stopped and said 'no way', then turned to look at the woman he was with. Turns out that was who we were looking for! She had just moved in because her and the man were engaged to be married soon! We had a nice talk with both of them about missions and church and all things related! By the time we got out of there it was time to go home, but I felt so blessed that we were able to run into those two at exactly the right moment and exchange a spiritual thought, as well as friendship! Miracles happen everyday people!
Jen Mallory was baptized and confirmed September 4, 2016! All the baptisms I've been to have been so wonderful, but felt a particularly sweet spirit at this one. Jen's friends from Utah who originally introduced her to the church 7 years ago had driven from Utah all day that day to be there! They gave the talks and performed the baptism. They were so funny and I could just see Jen glowing!! The Spirit of love was so potent and I couldn't help get teary as I watched it all happen. Jen is so very happy and we are working on getting her to the temple here in a few weeks :)
Anyway, hope all was well for y'all this week!! Let me tell you about the heart attack I had when, in passing, a saw a ginormous hurricane covering Florida on the news!!!!! Talk about stressed! Some of the members in the ward kept me updated on the status of the storm and it didn't sound too bad, so that's good! Sister Nielsen reassured me that y'all wouldn't go to the beach if it was still bad weather and I laughed and said "Oh no, my dad and uncle think that's the BEST time to go to the beach so they can boogy board! Nothing will stop them!" Hahaha!
I miss you guys and hope you continue to have enriching experiences! I love you I love you I love you!!!!!
Till next week,
Sister Loyd
