We were meeting lots of people when tragedy struck...

Hello everybody!

Well it has been a week! I still absolutely love being Downtown! It is full of interesting people.  For instance- seeing a real life prostitute get picked up on the Corner of Colfax (equal to Wabash back home.. but 10x).  Also, hobos come in all shapes and sizes and one almost fought the Elder beside me while trying to serve him food.. haha just kidding! kinda.. But regardless, I love it so much!

The week started off great! Sister Borup and I made goals for this transfer as to what we want to accomplish with the people in this area and with ourselves personally and we were so excited to get started!

We got to serve at a food bank where our entire zone
of missionaries prepped and served meals.
We got to serve at a food bank where our entire zone of missionaries prepped and served meals to the homeless in the area.  It is always so amazing to see all different kinds of people in different situations with incredible stories.  It also warms my heart that people are willing to take care of others with no regard as to the income they'll make (or not make in this instance).  My favorite scripture to remember, "Are we not all beggars?". Everything we have is from the Lord, therefore we should not hold back in sharing our God-given substance to others! Service and charity is the pure love of Christ, and we can all feel that as we serve everyone!!!

All was going well and we were meeting lots of people when tragedy struck *dun dun DUN*! Sister Borup late Thursday night got really really sick. Thinking it would be a 24 hour thing, we stayed in the following day to rest and recover.  The next day came and she still wasn't better.  Sunday came, we went to church and immediately had to go home- still sick :( My poor companion hasn't been able to keep down anything she's eaten except for some bread she had last night and her breakfast this morning! While all this sounds terrible, there were good things that came out of this!

Me on the serving line...
1) Our Zone Leaders are just the sweetest things on the planet.  Throughout the day they would check on us and ask if we needed anything.  On more than one occasion they brought us drinks, soups, movies (church approved), brownies, etc.  They never hesitated to help us, even though they live 25 minutes away and are limited on the miles they're allotted each month.  They also gave Sister Borup a sweet blessing to help her heal. Thank you elders and priesthood!

2) I got to have a movie marathon.. sometimes, when you're as obsessed with movies as I am, you really just crave movies! So we watched all the church approved movies over and over again and started memorizing them (my specialty ;)). But really, I learned a lot from the movies and gained a renewed wisdom and motivation to go out and work!!

3) Since I've been on a mission I've always wondered when I'd hit that point of being "terrified" to go home.  Well, I'm still not terrified, but there is big fear building in me.  Sitting at home doing nothing with no schedule or goals to try and hit was nice at first, then i got missionary stir crazy.  Back home, not doing anything for days on end seemed ideal and I was content with doing that.  But now I see how much the Lord does NOT want me to do that.  When we have a structured plan of our daily tasks, goals to reach to help us grow daily, and obedience to those plans, we really progress spiritually, physically, mentally and so on! I'm now terrified that if I go home, I might fall back into the rut of laziness that Satin disguises as "relaxation".  Good thing I'm still a missionary for another 14 months!! Being proactive and productive is the invigorating key to life!

Anyways, Sister Borup is almost fully recovered now and we are ready to take on another week! We believe the Lord has given us this long period of rest just before He'll slam our schedule with people to teach! I'm so excited!!

I keep all of you in my nightly prayers and hope you're doing well!! I miss and love you guys so much! Until next week,

xoxo
Sister Loyd
