1 month mark- Week 4

Well its been quite the week that's for sure!! But a great one at that. All our hard work seems to finally be paying off.

This week started off with a blizzard. It was beautiful!! But it did get kinda scary to drive cause roads started getting shut down and accidents were happening. After awhile the mission office texted us and told us to park our cars- we weren't allowed to drive that night or the following day. However, the work does not stop!! That night we contacted a referral on our street but she wasn't home.. so we decided to knock on just ONE more door and then go home (it was still snowing..) We walked and both stared down the same house and stopped at the same time. We had both gotten the impression to knock on this door. So we did and a Hispanic man answered- we ended up getting a return appointment with him and his wife that Saturday! We were so happy! As we walked the rest of the way home the elders met up with us and we decided to play in the snow for a bit. I made my first snow angel!!! (pics to come) And we all had a great time during our snow ball fight! It was still too cold to make a snow man... plus it was dark.. so we just went home after that. But it was fun!!

Tuesday we still weren't allowed to drive so we got our big coats and boots and walked everywhere! Most people would hate this but it was SO. FUN. Definitely a workout. But so much fun! The snow went up to my knees and it was white and powdery! We sang as we walked and offered service (shoveling peoples driveways) along the way! It was a really cool experience cause it gave me a tiny glimpse of what the pioneers went through. Through all of this we actually met someone willing to meet with us again, so there's another potential! On the way home we sang pioneer songs and Christmas songs, and the whole rest of the week we listened to Christmas music and drank hot chocolate every night cause it just seemed right. (Clearly I was making up for the lack of Christmas spirit I had while in FL).

Wednesday was so fun. We got to go to the temple!! It was sooo beautiful. The session was amazing and I definitely found renewed peace. We also got to drive through the mountains and it was such a beautiful sight!! It was also great to know that there are beautiful places in CO cause where I'm at right now is not the best representation of that... But I still love it!!

Thursday was interesting... Sister Platt got sick so we stayed in and she slept till 2 pm.. I watched a lot of church videos (the 80's version ones are hilarious, just sayin') and cleaned the apartment. However, we had a ton of important lessons that day, so like a trooper, sis Platt got up and we went and taught those lessons!

Saturday was such a great day as well! The Hispanic couple we met while tracting had us over for a lesson and offered us food! Of course, we couldn't say no (even though dinner was in 2 hours), so she fed us her homemade tortillas and beans and salsa. Little did I know, her salsa was just blended up jalapenos and a little bit of tomatoes.. So while pretending like I wasn't dying on the inside of heat stroke in my mouth we gave a run down of lesson one. They refused to read the BOM but seemed to agree with everything else. They are going to be a hard couple to crack that's for sure-- BUT they offered to feed us every Saturday and teach us how to make the food in exchange for "messages about the bible"...and that's what they'll get!! With little hints of the BOM too.

That night we had a dinner appointment with a member and her stepson who isn't a member. He decided he wanted to take the lessons, so we did that right after dinner! The lesson went soooo well and the spirit was definitely very strong. When the moment was right I extended the invitation to baptism (for the first time to anyone) and he said..........

YES!!

He agreed to be baptized!!!! Just as we were about to commit him to a date the family walked in with a cake for sister Platt and we never got around to it again... But it shall be done!!! We are on the way to our first baptism this transfer!

With yesterday being the super bowl we weren't allowed to contact people at all! So we did what we could and then went back to our apartment for some training aka feasting on lots of food and hot chocolate. It was so nice to relax while also be learning lots of new things that can help me!

So that's basically been my week this week! We have 3 new investigators and are teaching a lot of less active too! The people here are seriously so great. The lesson I've learned this week is that even without asking, Heavenly Father knows our needs and wants, and if they are good and we are obedient, we can receive the things we need!! It's so nice to know that we have a LOVING Heavenly Father, who knows us inside and out, and WANTS to bless us. And the fact that we have a Savior who has provided us with a sure way to return to him is by far one of the best gifts and privileges we will ever have. I love this Gospel, I love this work!

Until next week,

Love always,
Sister Loyd
